Thermage

  • What is Thermage CPT?

Thermage CPT is a safe, non-surgical, monopolar radiofrequency treatment with no down time.  Thermage CPT tightens collagen, contours the skin, and stimulates the production of new collagen.

  • How does Thermage CPT work?

It uses radio frequency energy to get to the fat layer of the skin. Once the Thermage radio frequencies have reached the fat layer, the fat is heated via a series of radio pulses. This stimulates collagen production and helps the skin to begin tightening from the inside out. Thermage is an FDA approved procedure and is considered an excellent non-invasive option for patients who do not want to undergo surgical procedures and protracted recovery periods. (It does not replace surgery.)

  • Is the treatment painful?

Some areas are more sensitive than others. The new Thermage CPT (Comfort Pulse Technology) integrates vibration with cooling blasts to achieve a whole new level of patient comfort. Oral pain medication may also be prescribed to minimise discomfort.

  • What can I expect during the treatment?

With each Thermage radiofrequency pulse, there is a cold sensation on the skin, followed by a brief hot sensation, and then cold again.

  • How long does each Thermage treatment take?

Depending on the size of the areas being treated, the Thermage procedure takes from 30 minutes up to 2 hours.

  • What is the recovery time?

There is no downtime. Patients can continue with their regular activities immediately after a Thermage treatment.

  • How will I look immediately after a Thermage treatment?

The treated area will appear slightly red for a few hours post the procedure

  • How long before I can see results?

Results vary with individuals depending on age and skin condition. The best results are seen a few months after the procedure. As the weakened collagen is replaced with new, more elastic collagen improvements can continue for up to 6 months following a procedure.

  • Who is a candidate for Thermage?

Thermage can be used on all skin types. The ideal patient is a person with minimal to moderate loose skin and someone who does not want the potential risks or downtime associated with surgery,

  • What areas can be treated with Thermage?

The full face, including eyelids and neck can be treated by Thermage. Body by Thermage includes the abdomen, arms, hands and thighs. It has in some cases improved the appearance of cellulite.

  • How many Thermage treatments are needed?

Typically, a single Thermage treatment is enough to gain the desired results.

  • How long will the Thermage results last?

Results of the Thermage treatment last about two years.  The patient’s natural ageing process, initial skin condition and environmental factors such as sun exposure and smoking all contribute to the breakdown of collagen.

  • Are there any side-effects with the Thermage treatment?

Side effects and complications with the procedure are rare. Typically, the patient experience mild redness for a few hours and the skin feels tight. Some areas may feel slightly tender for a few days after the procedure.

  • Can fat atrophy occur with Thermage?

When Thermage was first developed, some surgeons treated patients at very high settings under general anaesthesia. As the patients were unable to give any feedback to the surgeon, too much heat was deposited and as a result too much fat was burned resulting in atrophy.  Patients are no longer treated under anaesthesia and the new Thermage has adjustable settings which are in tune to patient tolerance. The settings are not high enough to burn fat. Lower settings are used with more passes.

  • Can Thermage be used after a facelift?

Yes. Thermage can tighten areas of skin still loose after a facelift.

  • Can I still have a facelift after a Thermage treatment?

Yes. We recommend you wait for at least 6 months post a Thermage treatment before having a facelift to give the collagen enough time to rebuild itself.

  • Can Thermage help my crepey, droopy eyelids?

Yes it tightens the skin and improves crepiness of the eyelids.

  • Can Thermage improve the texture of my wrinkly tummy?

    Yes.

  • How much does a Thermage treatment cost?

Pricing is dependent on the size of the area being treated.
